I’m really looking forward to this coming weekend. It’s my local RWA chapter’s annual brainstorming retreat, and I’m actually able to attend this year. I can hardly wait!
Once a year ten-ish writers from our group hole up in a cottage on a lake about an hour into Michigan from Ohio and help each other brainstorm our projects. Someone might need something as simple as a title for their WIP. (I had to laugh after I wrote that because, seriously, sometimes coming up with a good title is about as easy as pulling your own teeth with no anesthesia.) Someone else might have characters they’re starting to love and no idea what to do with them.
Brainstorming with the amazingly talented writers in my group has been, by far, the best way I have found to refill my own creative well. Not only do they help me with my stories, but it’s an exercise in thinking outside my own genre when it comes to helping them in return. The people in our group write everything from sweet romance to romantic suspense to paranormal to M/M erotic to post-apocalyptic urban fantasy.
Of course, plotting often takes a turn for the dirty, which means there is huge amounts of laughing, which is the best way of all to refill the creative well.
Have I said I can’t wait? Because I CAN’T WAIT!!!
I’m incredibly excited for Petra and Alex’s story to be released into the world. These friends to lovers became rather insistent that I write their story WAY before I was finished with Key Party, the first book in the series. I’m so happy with the way it turned out. Not only that, but I think it is by far the dirtiest story I’ve written to date. You’ll have to let me know if I’m right on that one.
I’m off to get my brainstorming notes together and start deciding what I’m going to pack for the weekend. I’ve got veggies to cut, cookies to bake and a home to clean because I LOVE coming home to a clean place after being away.
Have a fantastic rest of the week!
